Rincon Puerto Rico is the premier vacation and retirement location in the carribean. Surfing, fishing, diving, boating is good. Puerto Rico is the only place in the world that a US citizen can legally avoid filing IRS1040s. Puerto Rico is the only place in the "sort of" USA where you don't have to rent you home from the government. The temperature is usually in the 80's year round. The price of gas is less than the USA. You can cheaply fly in to Aguadilla, 40 minute drive with connections to NY, Newark, Ft Lauderdale and Orlando. San Juan is 2hr 15min drive and Ponce 1 1/2 hr.
This is one of the few places in the Carribean where you can own a new three bedroom home with a view of the ocean 5 minutes from the beach for under $160,000.
Home Depot, Sam's, K Mart and a 7 theater American movie house (Spanish subtitles) 20 minutes away from your door. You should, but you don't have to know Spanish to get by here. Health insurance is $150/ month for a 58 year old. Dr.s are very good. Hospitals are okay to bad. You can live very inexpensively and logically, it is very difficult to earn a living here unless you have a specialty or telecomute. Rincon is pretty safe, not much crime, but a lot of people drink and drive. I have 17 lots ranging from 1/4 to 1/2 acre and $50,000-$75,000 with electric and city water. We use septic tanks here. All lots have nice views, those with ocean views are the higher price. Good contractors build for about $75/sq' for concrete hurricane resistant homes. These lots are in quiet low traffic areas, but not remote. Grocery stores and restaurants are 5 to 10 minutes away.
We also have a beach house to rent and a small hotel if you want to come down and check things out
