Exceptional property on the Mopan River , three miles from the border with Guatemala, featuring river frontage. (The road that leads into town separates the property from the river respecting the 66 ft. egress required under Belize riparian water laws. Entry way features jungle mural by local artist and large 1/2 ton Mayan Freeze. Main house has one small bedroom that we use as a library, and a loft, with a small but functional full bath. The main house features very high vaulted ceilings and extensive use of local hard and soft wood. At around +800 sq. ft. it is easy to care for but large enough to never feel cramped. We spend alot of time during the late afternoon and evening outside on the patio listening to the river and watching the birds. Open floor plan and twenty foot cielings make many floor arrangements possible. A wrap around porch provides shade when its warm and the perfect spot for hammocks to lounge about in, as the breeze is more robust at elevation and the second floor of the main house is around 12 ft. above the grounds. Great river views are abundant off the front side of the porch area, and throughout the yard. Views from the loft and living area are great. Just off the main are two 600 square foot totally self contained cabanas that are wheel chair friendly. These also feature local wood for the Cabintry and Doors in and out. The cabanas are tiled for easy maintenance and also help keep the interiors cool.
Beautiful garden setting, featuring dozens of different varieties and colors of plants including haleconia, coconut palm, fan palm, hybiscus, roses, papaya, pineapple, orange, sugar cane, banana and plantain to name a few. Nearly every color of the rainbow is represented in the garden. Country style kitchen set up downstairs from the main house to accommodate guests needs. It's very rustic and very functional with boucoup space for dry and canned goods and lots of shelving for appliances etc. Because of the proximity to the river we have enjoyed the company of Herons , Egrets, myriads of parrots, humming birds and toucans among many other birds. The first year we saw no primates but in the last two we have seen troops of Spider and Howler monkeys in the trees across the river. Crocodiles have been spotted twice in three years, and Iguanas reaching 5 ft. are seen almost daily as are turtles and other reptiles. Around one hundred species of birds can be seen on any given day.
