IF YOU WERE TO PURCHASE ONE OF THESE HOMES, you would in essence be joining in with the 'family', to be here at the 'end of the grid' (to be totally OFF THE grid soon with solar power and seawater for toilet) where you truly have your own piece of 'paradise peace'. THAT said, the remoteness of the area and other inhabitants (who are generally there approximately one month out of the year) around it make for an area of tranquility where you can have your own program to delight in. There are no roads to get here, and the only way to get here is by panga boat or your own personal watercraft. i personally use a kayak.
There are mountain bikes and kayaks, stand up surfboards to use, and plenty of snorkeling right off the white sandy beach to keep you busy for many days. AND there are plentiful hammocks to be hung above the water, or amongst the branches of the many palm trees to swing laxily while sipping pina coladas, and/or reading one of the many novels available!
The captain morgans' dive boat leaves every day from across your home on suk suk cay. YOU may wish to dive everyday, or take the boat back 4.5 miles into town to shop for major purchases such as furniture or other major groceries. ACROSS the bay there are many little stores to choose your basic groceries. EVERY day there are more choices to choose from with the many little stores.
THIS home that is for sale is on property where it is cozily nestled among 7 other small pieces of platted and surveyed land, for PRIVATE family dwelling habitations. There have been 4 huts built and almost completed except for the drapes and curtains. There is allso a caretakers home that has been completed, to watch over the rest of the private dwellings and surroundings.
This is by NO MEANS a commercial development, although many people have loked at it as though it were or could be a boutique resort. I supppose if one wanterd to purchase the entire 7 lots, they could turn it into a dive resort. ONE couple per dwelling would be the preferred desired effect.
AT the moment, there is ONLY rainwater that is collected from the roofs of each house that supplies the water for pumping into the shower and the toilets and sinks. Drinking water is purchased by the 5 gallons. So each home has its own private cistern, as well as septic tank. The water availability has always been a challenge here, so every rainy season, we all pray for abundant supplies of rain to fill our cisterns.
This is NOT a homeowners association in the fact that YOU DO own the land with the home. I would be happy to find a caretaker to take care of your new purchase with the utmost care, if you should desire to lend it out to friends or family that you know and trust, in the future.
This home is located in a naturally protected 'cove' and also a reef protected area dubbed 'sunni's cove' and has also been referred to 'the well'. The beautiful white sandy beach, reef, AND surrounding mangroves is a rare combination and the neighbors are all trying with concerted effort to keep them all alive!
The dive boats that cruise by daily can be caught from the mainland or also from the dive operation located straight across the bay !
One of the very nicest particular features of this property is that it is located at the very end of the 'grid' where elecricity ends on mainland utila, and THERE is no car road but an electrical line road that spans the entire length to reach the canal crossing to the mainland and road, and thus no motorized vehicles to disturb your rest or privacy. The only access to get here is by boat. Or you can walk the beach for 5 miles, til you get to the end, at which point you can kayak across the canal to get to 'downtown' utila where there is a movie theatre and putt putt golf course, plus many many fine restaurants.
Another HUGE bonus about this property location is that on the southeastern shore of mainland utila this is about the ONLY place where one can walk into the white sandy shore to snorkel to the reef. Most of the shores here are called the iron shore which are famously called so because they are volcanic and very razor sharp and the color of iron or rust, and totally impossible to walk on even in tennis shoes unless you have very thick soles!
Many people walk all the way down here from resorts located one to 4 miles (UTOPIA or DEEP BLUE) to walk into the water with the white sandy beach to snorkel the beautiful reefs here at sunni's cove.
This could certainly be a rare opportunity not to be missed as the economy elsewhere in the world is under extreme pressure. ANY pressure here is subsidized by turqoise waters, clean east winds, the lapping of the water on the shore to lull you to sleep, breath-taking sunsets, plentiful fishfare for underwater photography or on your plate for a delicious meal.
