Absolute Tranquility + Fantastic 360° Sea and Mountain Views
Only 3 Minutes to Coromandel Town
How to develop a Paradise
“Gone Fishing …” was pretty much the telephone answer from each of the real estate agencies with whom we had corresponded in search of our dream property, somewhere in that land of nature lovers – New Zealand -. Disappointing, but not surprising, having landed at Auckland International Airport on a lovely, sunny, Easter weekend, some 18 years ago !
So we scanned through the ads in a ‘Weekend Herald’, and came across one that said:
“Just come on the market – 20 Ha property on top of a hill with 360° sea and mountain views, between Coromandel town and golf course with full views of both. Tel ___ . “.
Having heard of the Coromandel Peninsula as one of the top popular vacation places for New Zealanders and tourists alike, we asked for directions, rented a car, and met with the agent 2 hours later. She drove us to the property’s gated entrance next to the Coromandel Hotel near the town center – over a small bridge and onto that charming, winding 1 km driveway up the 110 meter high hill, along pastures, a cattle yard, a tractor shed, and ever-changing views - all that in "our" future property ???
Starry-eyed, we knew this was it: love on first sight!
Well, the driveways needed enlarging, and we immediately created a down road, looping around the residence. That recently constructed house needed a few more bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms; also, kitchen, living room, and office needed to be more spacious. Finally, an internally accessible double garage plus parking spaces, outside terraces and facilities, a self-contained apartment, central heating, an outdoor spa and an elaborate water storage and distribution system were done to provide all comforts we could think of..
We also took out the telephone poles that straggled our driveway, and had both the wiring and water pipes put underground all the way to the house. Then, together with our only neighbor on this side of the river, we reinforced and doubled the private bridge. In fact, there is an approved indoor/outdoor swimming pool in the planning stage, with the part inside the house nearly completed – but which we may not have time to finish as we must move on for personal reasons.
It was fun doing all that for the past 18 years, especially when one has near-infinite space and natural resources in and with which to operate, like springs, ponds, and a rich flora! So today, we look back on that wonderful experience of living in a natural wonderland and shaping it to exactly what one wants – and what others may want to enjoy after us.
So, this was our story - now here is what you get :
Unique Ridge-top Landmark Residence
Towering on a 20 Ha (appr. 50 acres) Hill between Coromandel Town and its Golf course - with 360° views of both - and the luminous ocean beyond !
For the first time since 18 years, this superb country estate is available on the market. Among its irresistible features :
* An elegant, luxurious and enviably private home plus a self-contained apartment, some 110 meters above sea level..
* An impressive gated entrance to the tree-lined 100 m driveway, after a private bridge right from the
center of Coromandel town
* Complete peace and tranquility - with magnificent sunsets over the sea, plus the night-time views onto the brightly-lit town, and across Waiheke Island to the glowing skies above Auckland.
* Native bush, with Rimu, Kauri, and Pohutukawa trees, all teeming with birdlife - including Kiwi sightings.
* While to the East. separating the town from the property, the Wangarahi river runs along and through it - the West and North boundaries extend along the golf course and up through a bush-covered valley to the 115 m Geodesic marker, 80 m behind the residence. Still Inside the boundary, on the way back down to the river, lies one of at least 3 active springs of the property - supplying drinking water to neighboring houses.
* Generous paddocks, with extensive internal and boundary fencing (some electrified for horse grazing or other farm use) are all accessible by vehicle for easy maintenance, providing some 2 km of enticing riding or walking tracks to 4 separate pond areas – one with a Japanese Bridge, another one with a boat landing and a raft !
* 2 SEPARATE LAND TITLES - readily permit a further 1-acre building site - while the potential for future development is unlimited, including that of subdivision, especially if the roughly 60 % of flat or undulating land were to be included in the residential zoning of the Coromandel town areas surrounding it. (Personally, we preferred our Peace and Tranquility as is!)
