This location is in the heart of numerous French cultural towns famously known for their Cajun and Creole foods and music, just minutes away.
· The cottage was designed by an artist/carpenter/architect. The all cypress structure orientation creates privacy from nearby neighbors. It was built with a passive solar design accordingly to the four cardinals points to save energy. The use of antique wood, doors, windows and floors were collected from different historical sources of Louisiana. This enhances a unique European character of the cottage. It has spacious rooms with high ceilings that open to the lake and woods. Often the refreshing breeze sweeps over the lake throughout the cottage giving a seaside ambience. The highest level is at the tree level with a perspective capturing the reflections of the universal life on the water.
· The cottage has been an art studio/ private gallery. Also as a vacation home, it hosted endless functions, retreats and inspirational activities. The land is dimensionally ideal for bonfires, cookouts, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and swimming.
· The kitchen has a large window facing the west, viewing birds and trees. Outside of the kitchen door is a large enough cooking and gathering decking area for grilling. There is a round stain glass used as a peep hole to the north. Adjoins is a full bathroom that has unique features with a large cozy tub. An antique armoire can be used for the linens to carry out the antique tradition.
· The bedroom on the lower level is quaintly romantic. It has historical church windows over looking the lake. This very private room is a special place for writers and readers to accomplish their work. The bathroom is simple with a round artistic stain glass window.
· The living and studio area is one large open room, yet visually separated. The ceilings are 12’ high with exposed antique beams keeping the temperature in cool range along with the ceiling fans. Most of the floors are antique oak, tongue and groove, adjoined with old cypress barn wood for the tall walls. The efficient wood stove is a great source of heat. The helix spiral staircase is an outstanding work of metal art; it curves from the corner in front of a big church window up to the loft area.
· The loft room is partially open, ideal for a quest room and studio. The ceiling is enhanced with bamboo reeds and the walls are of cypress finished with cedar, giving it a tropical look. The cypress windows open to the lake with other stationary windows. It has its own private entrance onto the rear decking, to the exterior stairs.
· The 2nd loft bedroom is a private and attractive room with antique wood floors. The walls here are of cypress trimmed with cedar. The south wall is a patchwork of windows with a cypress double doors that open onto a deck offering another breathtaking lake view. The west side has a large unique circle window to view the trees and sunsets. The sub-bathroom is partitioned with armoires closest for clothing. It also has a private entrance onto the rear decking to the same exterior stairs.
· The lower studios (2):
(1) This studio is underneath the cottage and has a fantastic view. It is completed enclosed with antique windows and doors. This private space can be used as sleeping quarters or a studio. It is rustic, unique, and has an a/c.
(2) The workshop provides an open as well as a closed in section for a small storage area.
